Flyers Dominate in Chicago, Break Records at GVSU

HOW IT HAPPENED AT GVSU
The Flyers brought the heat into Allendale with record-breaking and heat-winning performances at the GVSU Big Meet.

Evan Horgan (Loves Park, Ill./Belvidere North) had a standout performance in the men's 3,000 meters, winning the event and setting a new school record with a time of 7:59.31. The women's distance medley relay team turned in a strong fourth-place finish, clocking 11:44.08.

Brendon Shea (Hershey, Pa./Hershey) also had a standout performance, winning his heat with a time of 14:30.21 to cap off another impressive weekend for the Flyers.

HOW IT HAPPENED IN CHICAGO
Denise Hernandez (Naperville, Ill./Naperville North HS) led the way in the women's long jump, capturing first place with an NCAA mark of 6.09 meters. Emma Crawford joined her in third with a leap of 5.53 meters. In the women's high jump, Karmen Kurowicka (Itasca, Ill./Lake Park HS) secured another NCAA performance, clearing 1.69 meters to take first.

The women's throwers delivered one of the strongest collective performances of the meet, with every athlete recording a personal best. Aubrey Brinkman (Mapleton, Ill./Illini Bluffs HS) won the weight throw with a mark of 16.58 meters, followed by Olivia Cox () in second at 15.82 meters. Lindsey Hasbrouck () added a fifth-place finish at 14.75 meters, Lauren Wattawa (Homer Glen, Ill./Lockport) placed sixth with 14.47 meters, and Amanda Melton () threw 11.84 meters for 16th.

In the shot put, Olivia Cox () claimed the title with a throw of 13.32 meters, while Lindsey Hasbrouck () finished second at 11.94 meters to give the Flyers a 1-2 finish.

On the men's side, the weight throw duo of Levi Graham (Plainfield, Ill./Minooka) and Ben Saucedo (/) continued to impress with NCAA marks. Graham won the event with a massive toss of 21.87 meters, while Saucedo followed in second at 18.58 meters.

Abraham soared to an NCAA mark in the men's high jump, clearing 2.13 meters to take first. Cody Machlet (Roselle, Ill./Geneva Community HS) added a strong third-place finish in the long jump at 6.93 meters.

On the track, Cagini Pilgrim (Castries, Saint Lucia/) placed second in the men's 200 meters with a time of 22.18 seconds, while Kamari Rush () followed closely in third at 22.41 seconds.

The Flyers travel to Naperville, IL on February 20 for the Lee Slick Invite.
