Flyers Set for Series Finale Against Wayne State

GAME 1 RECAP
Millington, Tenn. – The Lewis University baseball team earned a 4-1 victory over Wayne State University.

Wayne State struck first with a run in the bottom of the fourth when Drew Hill's RBI triple brought home the game's first run. That would be the only tally for the Warriors on the night.

Lewis responded in the top of the fifth. Constantine Coines (Park Ridge, Ill./Maine South) doubled down the left-field line, driving in John Russell and igniting the Flyer offense. An error in the inning then allowed another run to score, giving Lewis a 2-1 lead.

The Flyers added to their advantage in the sixth when Chris Daugherty's (Chicago, Ill/Brother Rice) RBI single scored Alex Chaltin (Lombard, Ill./Willowbrook) to make it 3-1. They added an extra run in the seventh as Jimmy Spellman's (Chicago, Ill./Notre Dame College of Prep) RBI single brought home Coines to extend the lead to 4-1.

Lewis finished with six hits in the contest, led by Chaltin's 2-hit effort and Coines' extra-base hit, while the Flyers' pitching staff held the Warriors to just three hits overall.

GAME 2 RECAP
Millington, Tenn. – The Lewis University baseball team dropped the final contest of the day to Wayne State University, falling 8-4 Saturday afternoon.

Wayne State struck first in the top of the 1st inning, as Drew Hill's two-run single plated both early Warriors runs. The Flyers were held scoreless through four innings while Wayne State added a tally in the 3rd to take a 3-0 lead heading to the middle innings.

Lewis finally got on the board in the 5th. Jimmy Spellman's (Chicago, Ill./Notre Dame College of Prep) RBI single brought home Israel Delgado (Machesney Park, Ill.), and Alex Chaltin (Lombard, Ill./Willowbrook) followed with an RBI knock to cut the deficit. A bases-loaded walk extended the rally as Spellman scored again, knotting the game at 3-3.

The Warriors responded in the 6th with a three-run frame. Tony Hatzigeorgiou sparked the inning with an RBI single and later scored on a passed ball, and Ty Garza's RBI double gave WSU a 6-3 edge. Lewis answered with a sacrifice fly by Constantine Coines (Park Ridge, Ill./Maine South) that brought home T. Phommacha to trim the gap to 6-4.

However, Wayne State put the game out of reach in the 9th inning. A two-run single by Rhett Roeser off reliever Collin Amsden (Oak Forest, Ill./Marist) pushed the lead to 8-4, sealing the win for the Warriors.
