Indianapolis, Ind. - The Lewis University men's and women's track and field programs took home a pair of weekly awards as
Denise Hernandez (Naperville, Ill./Naperville North HS) was named the Great Lakes Valley Conference Women's Indoor Field Athlete of the Week while
Neil Erasmus (George, South Africa) was tabbed the leagues male indoor field athlete of the week, the league office announced this afternoon.
The Flyers have now won at least two weekly indoor track and field awards from the GLVC for the third time this season.
For Hernandez, she won the Triple jump at the Windy City Rumbe on Saturday. In her first time trying the triple jump this season, Hernandez opened with a leap of 11.98m which currently ranks second in the GLVC and 20th nationally.
As for Erasmus, he finished the Jett's Pizza invitational heptathlon with a new overall personal record of 4945 points. He currently ranks top 15 in the NCAA and number two in the GLVC. The George, South Africa, native marks of 7.19 in the 60m and 7.0m in the long jump were personal records within the event.
Lewis takes the track again for the Fairgrounds Invitational in Indianapolis, Ind. from Feb. 6-7.
