ROMEOVILLE, Ill. -
The Lewis University women's swimming team lost by the slimmest of margins to Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference foe Northern Michigan Saturday, Jan. 17.
The Flyers have traditionally swum a dual meet against the Wildcats, but this was the first time the schools met as members of the same conference.
Lewis won six of the eleven events, but Northern Michigan pulled out the win by a single point, 101-100.
Rita Kalmikova paced the Flyers with wins in the 100 breaststroke (1:09.83) and 200 individual medley (2:16.29). She led a Lewis sweep of the top three spots in the 100 breaststroke and the top two spots in the 200 IM.
Stephanie White-Olson placed second in the 100 breaststroke (1:10.52), while Jenny Byers finished third (1:11.51). Michelle Sliva swam second in the 200 IM, clocking a 2:17.06.
Sliva registered a win in the 100 butterfly (1:01.86), while Brittany Reetz (25.80) and Leigh Dodd (11:06.01) picked up wins in the 50 freestyle and 1000 freestyle, respectively.
In addition, the Flyers' 200 medley relay squad consisting of Dodd, Kalmikova, Sliva and Reetz won the event in 1:54.48.
Lewis returns to action Friday, Jan. 21 when it will travel to GLIAC rival Indianapolis for a 4 p.m. dual meet. The team will then host its final home meet of the year Saturday, Jan. 22 when it faces North Central College and College of DuPage in a double dual.
