DETROIT--The Lewis University swimming teams added three more conference champions to their ranks on Day 3 of the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference championships.
The men's 800 freestyle relay team consisting of Adam Bidlack, Josh Rogers, Kurt Niemeier, and Michael Lapustin won the event and obliterated the field by almost four seconds highlighting the Flyers' day. The team clocked a 6:52.71 to set a school record, a Wayne State University pool record and a GLIAC championships record. Bidlack got the team rolling with a 1:42.43 opening leg that was an NCAA B-cut time.
Lapustin added his second individual championship of the meet when he finished in a deadheat with David Lutz of Wayne State in the 100 yard backstroke. The pair touched at 51.80 to share the title. Earlier in the day, Lapustin set a pool record with a 51.28 in the preliminaries.
Rogers became the second different individual to win a GLIAC championship when he registered a 1:42.23 in the 200 freestyle. His time set a school and pool record and was an NCAA B-cut.
Other top performances on Day 3:
--Jevgenijs Pesins (Riga, Latvia/Jenison (Mich.)) finish second in the 100 butterfly with a 50.90. He broke Lewis' school record in the preliminaries with a 50.83.
--Bidlack placed seventh in the 400 IM and set the school record with a 4:15.06 in the preliminaries.
--Rita Kalmikova (Riga, Latvia/Secondary School #10) (1:07.90) and Stephanie White-Olson (1:07.96) finished fifth and sixth, respectively, in the 100 breaststroke. Both times were NCAA B-cuts.
--Brittany Reetz (Schaumburg, Ill./Conant) finished fourth in the 200 freestyle with an NCAA B-cut time of 1:57.41.
