QUINCY, Ill. - The Lewis women's soccer team entered the final day of the regular season in contention for the final spot in the Great Lakes Valley Conference Tournament. However it wasn't to be following a 2-0 loss at Quincy on Sunday afternoon.

It was a scoreless first half, and just about a scoreless first 65 minutes until Quincy scored at the 64:49 mark. Becky Flemming had the tally from six yards out on an assist by Annie Sokolich. Quincy extended their lead in the 78th minute. Kristine Vogt stole a Lewis clearing pass and scored from 20-yards out.

"They entered the game with the fourth best defense in the country so we knew it was going to be a difficult task," head coach Chris Koenig said. "We put some numbers forward, tried to get some chances and had some but we couldn't get on the end of them,"

Sophomore Fran Abate (Bartlett, Ill./Bartlett) had four shots, two on goal, for Lewis. Junior Allison Schieffer (Channahon, Ill./Minooka) recorded two shots, with one on goal.

"We didn't put together 90 complete minutes today or on Friday," Koenig said. "In this conference that's not good enough."

The Flyers finish the 2010 season 6-9-1 (6-8-0 GLVC). Lewis' six GLVC victories stand as the most since 1997.
