Kissimmee, Fla. - The No. 24 Lewis University softball team put its best foot forward against the University of Sciences, but the Devils were two steps ahead, as they scored eight unanswered runs on their way to the 9-3 come-from-behind win over the Flyers at the Rebel Games on Saturday (March 5) afternoon.

Lewis freshman pitcher Alyssa Moseley (Crown Point, Ind./Andrean) took the complete-game loss for the Flyers. Moseley (3-3) allowed nine runs, eight of which were earned, 12 hits and struck out six batters. Moseley also went 2-for-4 at the dish for the Flyers.

"We just ran out of gas," Lewis head softball coach George DiMatteo said. "Alyssa gave us her best effort out there. I give her an `A' for effort, an `A' for courage, but we just ran out of gas."

With the win, USP improves to 1-0, while the Flyers drop to 8-3 on the campaign.

Lewis used a three-run third inning to jump out to a 3-1 lead over the Devils. Sophomore outfielder Lauren Hanford (Morris, Ill./Morris), who went 2-for-4, roped a RBI double. The Flyers also received RBI from sophomore shortstop Michelle Vucsko (Chicago, Ill./Marist) and junior catcher Mary Giancarlo (Plainfield, Ill./Plainfield South).

The Flyers, however, were unable to sustain that lead as the Devils touched Moseley for four runs both the fifth and seventh innings to claim the win.

Lewis sophomore center fielder Jayme Hefler (Glen Ellyn, Ill./Glenbard West) swiped three bases on the afternoon.

The Flyers are back in action on Sunday (March 6), as Lewis takes on both Ashland (9 a.m., EST) and Saginaw Valley State (11 a.m., EST).
