Owensboro, Ky. – The Lewis University women's volleyball team wrapped up the 2012 regular season with 3-0 victories over Kentucky Wesleyan and Urbana on Saturday (Nov. 10). Lewis defeated Kentucky Wesleyan 25-18, 25-12, 25-21, and defeated Urbana 25-20, 25-13, 25-11.
With the victories, Lewis improves to 24-9 on the season and 15-3 against Great Lakes Valley Conference opponents, which earns the squad a share of the GLVC East Division title.
“Everybody played today and they all were happy to be playing,” Lewis head women's volleyball coach
Lorelee Smith said. “The team treated today's matches like another match, not the end of the season, and I appreciated that.”
Against Kentucky Wesleyan,
Cassidy Parsons (Elkhart, Ind./Elkhart Memorial) led the Flyers with a double-double with 13 kills and 11 digs. Senior
Carly Perschnick (Dwight, Ill./Dwight Township) added 10 kills in the Flyers victory.
Setter
Leigh Barea (Battle Creek, Mich./Harper Creek) had 41 of Lewis' 45 assists, while libero
Amy Choi (Vernon Hills, Ill./Vernon Hills) had 21 digs.
In three sets against Urbana, the Flyers were led by senior
Colleen Mitros (Mokena, Ill./Providence Catholic) who had a double-double with 13 kills and 11 digs. Perschnick had 11 kills, while
Jillian Carlberg (Urbandale, Iowa/Waukee) added 10 kills and
Jen Krumwiede (Elkhart, Ind./Elkhart Memorial) had 11 digs.
Barea had 44 assists as Choi had 20 digs for the Flyers.
The Flyers will find out their seed and first-round opponent in the 2012 GLVC Women's Volleyball Championship Tournament when the Conference announces the bracket on Sunday (Nov. 11). This is the first season the GLVC Championship Tournament will be hosted on a neutral site, at the Indiana South Sports Academy on Nov. 16-18, in Indianapolis, Ind.
