Lewis Men's Hoops Seeks To Upset No. 15 Northern Kentucky On Thursday

Tip-off is set for 7:45 p.m. at Neil Carey Arena.

The Lewis University men's basketball team looks to avenge one of their six losses this season, as the Flyers (13-6, 5-6 GLVC) welcome No. 15 Northern Kentucky (15-4, 7-4 GLVC) to Neil Carey Arena on Thursday (Feb. 2) evening. Tip-off is set for 7:45 p.m. (CST).

ALL TIME SERIES - Since Lewis entered the Division II ranks, Northern Kentucky holds a 38-16 advantage over the Flyers in their all-time series.  

LAST TIME WE MET - No. 9 Northern Kentucky knocked down 15 of their 29 three-point attempts to claim the 77-66 GLVC win over Lewis at the Bank of Kentucky Center on January 21, 2012. Lewis committed a season-low seven turnovers against the Norse.

LAST TIME OUT - Lewis, led by a season-high 24 points and a career-high six three-pointers from senior forward Matt Toth (Orland Park, Ill./Sandburg), tied a team-season high with 13 trifectas in the 86-64 win over Saint Joseph's on January 28, 2012.

KEEP ON WINNIN' - Saturday's win over Saint Joseph's clinched a winning record of 5-4 for the month of January for Lewis, giving the Flyers three-straight winning months. The last time Lewis accomplished that feat came during the 2007-08 campaign.

TOUGH SLEDDING - Lewis' six losses this season have come against teams that are a combined 88-25 (.778) for the 2011-12 campaign.

IN IT UNTIL THE END - The score was either tied or Lewis held a lead with under one minute left in three of the Flyers' six losses this season.

EXTRA EFFORT - Last Thursday's win over Indianapolis marked Lewis' second overtime win this season, which is the first time a Flyer squad has accomplished that feat since the 2007-08 campaign when they went 2-2 in free basketball. The last time Lewis won three overtime games came during the 1993-94 season.

HONORING HIS BROTHER - Junior guard David Bryant (Batavia, Ill./Batavia) wears the number 12 in honor of his late brother Kevin who played for Trost at Illinois Wesleyan from 2004-06.  

HOME COOKIN' - Lewis has won seven-straight contests amid the friendly confines of Neil Carey Arena. The last time the Flyers won eight-straight home games came during the 2007-08 campaign, when they were victorious in their first 11 tilts.

HE'S NO SAMSON - Since cutting his trademark braids, senior forward Lonnie Lawrence (Bloomington, Ill./Bloomington) is averaging 7.3 points, 6.1 rebounds, 1.8 assists and 1.4 steals-per-game in 10 contests. Prior to that, Lawrence averaged 2.1 points, 3.5 rebounds, 1.0 assists and 1.0 steals-per-game in nine contests.

50/50 - Lewis is 7-0 this year when they have a field goal percentage of 50.0% or better. Since the 2006-07 campaign, the Flyers have a record of 53-10 (.841) when they shoot over 50.0%.

NOT MY BROTHER - Senior forward Justin Jarosz (Homer Glen, Ill./Lockport) and freshman guard Jeff Jarosz (Lyons, Ill./Morton) are not related.

CLEANING UP THE GLASS - Freshman forward Julian Lewis (Flossmoor, Ill./Homewood-Flossmoor) is tops among GLVC freshmen and the Flyers with 5.4 rebounds-per-game. Former Lewis standout Austin Real (Aurora, Ill./Aurora West) was the last freshman to lead the Flyers in rebounding with 6.8 boards-per-game in 2000-01.

POUNDING THE GLASS - Lewis is 14-3 (.824) when Toth leads the team in rebounding during his career.

PLAYING CLEAN - As of January 29th, Lewis is ranked sixth in the nation, averaging 14.9 fouls-per-game.

GETTING TO THE LINE - Lewis has made more free throws (261) than their opponents have attempted (252).

FROM WAY DOWNTOWN - Lewis is 23-8 (.741) since 2006-07 when they knock down at least 50.0% of their three-point attempts (min. 5 made).

FROM WAY DOWNTOWN (PART DEUX) - As a team, Lewis is third in the conference and sixth in the country in three-point field goal percentage, as the Flyers are knocking down 41.6% (133-for-320) of their attempts. The Norse, however, rank ahead of Lewis, converting 42.6% (187-for-439) of their three-point attempts.

DEFENSIVE CLAMPS - Lewis has held nine opponents this season to under 60 points, which is the most by a Flyer squad since the 2001-02 season when they did it 11 times.

CLOSE CALLS - During Scott Trost's career at Lewis, the Flyers are 26-25 (.510) in games decided by five points or less, which accounts for 31.1% of the 164 games he has coached in.

TRENDING? - Lewis has had three two-game losing streaks this season. Following each of those streaks, the Flyers have responded by winning at least three-straight contests.
