EAST PEORIA, Ill. - The 2012 Great Lakes Valley Conference Softball Tournament has come to an end for the Lewis University softball team, as the Flyers dropped games to both No. 4 Indianapolis (5-2) and UIS (9-8) at the Eastside Center on Saturday (Apr. 28).

Lewis is now 31-24, while Indianapolis and UIS will battle for the GLVC Tournament Championship on Sunday (Apr. 29) afternoon.

Against UIndy, the Greyhounds jumped out to a 4-0 lead after an inning and a half and never looked back. UIndy starting pitcher Jennifer DeMotte improved to 33-5 on the season, as she allowed two runs and seven hits in the complete-game victory. She also added a solo home run in the top of the seventh inning for good measure. UIndy first baseman Taylor Russell added a two-run single in the third inning for the Greyhounds.

DeMotte's counterpart, Kelly Bowler (Lockport, Ill./Lockport) (Lockport, Ill./Lockport) did not fare as well. Bowler (12-5) allowed four runs and five hits in two innings of work.

Offensively, Lewis senior catcher Mary Giancarlo (Plainfield, Ill./Plainfield South) roped her third home run of the season, a solo shot in the second inning, while junior center fielder Jayme Hefler (Glen Ellyn, Ill./Glenbard West) (Glen Ellyn, Ill./Glenbard West) and sophomore first baseman Alyssa Moseley (Crown Point, Ind./Andrean) (Crown Point, Ind./Andrean) each notched two hits.

In the nightcap against UIS, the Prairie Stars rallied from a 2-1 deficit in the bottom of the third inning, as they pushed across six runs to give them a 7-2 advantage over the Flyers.

Lewis responded with a six-run inning of their own in the fourth to give them an 8-7 advantage. Five different Flyers recorded RBI during the frame, highlighted by a two-run single by junior right fielder Lauren Hanford (Morris, Ill./Morris) (Morris, Ill./Morris).

UIS, however, put the final stamp on the contest in the bottom of the fifth, as Samantha Inman took an offering from Lewis senior pitcher Karissa Habel (Downers Grove, Ill./Downers Grove South) (Downers Grove, Ill./Downers Grove South) over the wall for a two-run homer.

Habel (8-8) allowed four runs and four hits to take the loss for the Flyers. UIS relief pitcher Aubrey Watson tossed 3.1 innings of three-hit, scoreless relief to improve her record to 9-9 on the campaign.

Hefler led the Flyers' offensively against the Prairie Stars, as she went 4-for-5 with two runs scored and a RBI. Lewis sophomore left fielder Jessica Rourke (Lockport, Ill./Lockport) (Lockport, Ill./Lockport) added two RBI, while Moseley and senior third baseman Traci Freitag (Westmont, Ill./Hinsdale Central) (Westmont, Ill./Hinsdale Central) each collected two hits.
