Romeoville, Ill. – The No. 14 Lewis University men's volleyball team made quick work of Lindenwood in a straight-set victory (25-20, 25-18, 25-10) in Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association action on Friday (Feb. 8) at Neil Carey Arena.
The Flyers improve to 7-5 on the season and 3-0 in MIVA play while Lindenwood falls to 1-5 on the year and 1-4 in league play.

Sophomore opposite
Eric Fitterer (Edwardsville, Ill./Edwardsville) (Edwardsville, Ill./Edwardsville) led the Flyers with a .667 hitting percentage tallying 11 kills and one error on 15 attempts, two block assists and one ace. Redshirt sophomore outside hitter
Geoff Powell (Claremont, Calif./Claremont) (Claremont, Calif./Claremont) tallied a game-high 14 kills, three digs and two block assists. Redshirt junior setter
BJ Boldog (Palatine, Ill./Palatine) (Palatine, Ill./Palatine) picked up 34 assists and three block assists. Freshman middle hitter
Bobby Walsh (Chicago, Ill./Mount Carmel) (Chicago, Ill./Mount Carmel) chipped in six kills and game-high five block assists.
The Flyers hit .354 (40 kills, 12 errors, 79 attempts) while holding the Lions to a .116 hitting clip (30 kills, 20 errors, 86 assists) for the three-set match.
In the third set, the Flyers jumped out to an 8-3 led by three straight kills from Powell. Lindenwood got within five points at 15-10, but that was the closest they would get in the game. Lewis closed the set on a 9-0 run, helped by a kill each from Fitterer, Boldog, redshirt senior outside hitter

Lewis took a four-point lead at 15-11 the second set on back-to-back kills from Walsh. The Flyers' lead proved to be enough as they went on a 9-7 run to close out the set, 25-18. Fitterer had a set-high seven kills while Powell added five kills.
The first set was the best the Lions hit all night at a .179 clip (12 K, 7 E, 28 A) but they were still out-hit by the Flyers, who put together a .233 hitting percentage (13 K, 6 E, 30 A), on five kills by Powell.
Tim Huizinga and Colin Hackworth both tallied nine kills to lead Lindenwood's offense. Setter Tim Schmidt had 29 of the Lions' 30 assists.
Lewis is back in action on Saturday (Feb. 9) at Neil Carey Arena when the team hosts Quincy at 7 PM on Military Appreciation Night. All military members get in free.
