Indianapolis, Ind. - University of Indianapolis freshman pitcher Morgan Foley turned in a dominating performance in the circle for the No. 2 Greyhounds, as she struck out 14 batters and won both games in UIndy's 7-2, 10-1 (5 inn.) Great Lakes Valley Conference doubleheader sweep of Lewis University at Baumgartner Field on Saturday (March 30) afternoon.
In the opener, Foley (15-2) tossed 2.1 innings of scoreless and hitless relief while striking out five batters to earn the victory out of the bullpen. In the nightcap, Foley allowed one run and two hits, while striking out nine batters. She threw 4.1 hitless innings in game two before Lewis senior shortstop
Michelle Vucsko (Chicago, Ill./Marist) (Chicago, Ill./Marist) took her deep for the Flyers' only run of the game.
"The scores were not indicative on how close these games were against Indy," Lewis head softball coach George DiMatteo said. "We battled hard, but unfortunately the big innings today really cost us."
With the sweep, UIndy improves to 28-2 overall and 10-0 in GLVC action, while the visiting Flyers drop to 8-8 on the campaign and 5-3 in conference play.
In the opener, UIndy's Casey Williamson went 2-for-3 with two runs scored, including a solo home run, while senior third baseman Kelsey Rummel and senior first baseman Bailey Wittenauer each drove in two runs in a five-run sixth inning for the 'Hounds.

Kelly Bowler (Lockport, Ill./Lockport) (Lockport, Ill./Lockport) took the complete-game loss for the Flyers. Bowler (5-4) surrendered seven runs, four earned, and 12 hits while striking out one.

The big inning proved to be the downfall again for the Flyers in game two, as UIndy scored nine runs in the fourth. The Greyhounds took advantage of six walks by Flyer starting pitcher
Ali Brems (Kenosha, Wis./Harborside) (Kenosha, Wis./Harborside) and two errors in the frame. UIndy only managed three hits during the inning and five of the six walks came around to score.
UIndy center fielder Jennifer DeMotte (2-for-2, run), designated player Taylor Russell and Wittenauer each recorded two RBI apiece for the Greyhounds in the nightcap.
Brems (3-4) took the loss for the Flyers, as she allowed nine earned runs, eight walks and six hits in 3.2 innings of work.
Lewis returns to action on Tuesday (April 2), as they head to Ohio for a non-conference doubleheader against Urbana. First pitch is scheduled for 3 PM (ET).
