Lewis Baseball Falls To Bellarmine, 8-4, At GLVC Tournament

Evansville, Ind. – Bellarmine scored eight unanswered runs to earn the 8-4 victory over the Lewis University baseball team at the 2013 GLVC Baseball Tournament at USI Field on Friday (May 10). 
 
The Flyers move to 30-15 on the season and fall to the consolation side of the GLVC Tournament bracket, while the Knights move to 27-21 on the season. The Flyers now face University of Missouri-St. Louis at 1:30 PM on Saturday (May 11) at USI Field. 
 
In the first inning, junior Jake Murray (Downers Grove, Ill./Downers Grove North) tripled to right field and scored on a single by senior Michael Schroeder (Crown Point, Ind./North Newton) to right field. After junior Ben Albano (West Dundee, Ill./Jacobs) hit a single through the left side of the field, junior Kyle Kapka (Mount Prospect, Ill./Prospect) legged out a triple to score Schroeder and Albano. Kapka then scored on a ground out by redshirt-junior Kyle Thomas (Homer Glen, Ill./Providence Catholic) to put the Flyers up 4-0.
 
Bellarmine scored single runs in the bottom of the first and second but the four runs in the Knights' half of the third inning hurt the Flyers the most. The Knights added insurance runs in the fourth and sixth innings. BU's Austin Crutcher went 3-for-4 with three RBI while teammate Graham Spencer also went 3-for-4 and collected two RBI. 
 
Lewis starting pitcher senior Matt Frahm (McLean, Ill./Olympia) took the loss, giving up seven runs, six earned, on eight hits in three innings of work. Frahm (7-2) struck out and walked two.
 
Bellarmine's Jason Sterrett (5-3) picked up the win, giving up four runs on six hits in six innings of work. He struck out eight and walked two batters.
