No. 11 Lewis Men’s Volleyball Collects Sweep Of George Mason

Eric Fitterer led the Flyers with 13 putaways, while Bobby Walsh tallied a career-high 10 block assists

Romeoville, Ill. – The No. 11 Lewis University men's volleyball team tallied their fifth straight sweep, and ninth of the season, as the defeated George Mason, 3-0 (25-13, 29-27, 25-17) on Friday (March 14) at Neil Carey Arena.
 
The Flyers improve to 14-4 on the year while the Patriots fall to 8-10 on the season.
 
The Lewis offense was led by junior opposite Eric Fitterer (Edwardsville, Ill./Edwardsville) with 13 putaways, eight total blocks (1 solo, 7 BA) and four digs while junior outside hitter Greg Petty (Downers Grove, Ill./Downers Grove North) tallied nine kills and 10 digs.
 
Sophomore middle blocker Bobby Walsh (Chicago, Ill./Mount Carmel) tallied a career-high 10 block assists, along with six kills with no errors in 11 attempts to swing .545 for the Flyers. Sophomore setter Scott Fifer (Orland Park, Ill./Sandburg) dished out a floor-high 33 assists.
 
The Flyers hit .333 on the night, collecting 38 kills with 12 errors on 78 attempts while holding the Patriots to a .067 clip (35 K, 28 E, 104 TA).
 
Lewis also out-blocked George Mason with a season-high 17.0 (1 solo, 32 BA) to 6.0 (12 BA), which is the most block assists since Lewis tallied a program-high 35 block assists against IPFW on Feb. 15, 2008.

"We picked up right were we left off offensively in our match against Ohio State earlier in the week," Lewis head men's volleyball coach Dan Friend said. "It was a fantastic night for blocking, maybe one of the best blocking matches I've seen us have in a long time."
 
George Mason's Radoslav Popov was one of four Patriots that tallied seven putaways, while collecting seven digs and two block assists. Patriots' setter Joe Heim dished out 29 assists.
 
The Flyers are back in action on Tuesday (March 18) when they head into Chicago to take on nationally ranked Loyola at Gentile Arena. First serve is set for 7 PM.
