South Euclid, Ohio -
The Lewis University softball team brought out the big sticks, as the Flyers pounded out 23 hits to earn the 8-2, 10-6 (6 inn.) regional doubleheader sweep over Notre Dame College at Normandy Field on Thursday (March 20) afternoon. Game two was called due to darkness.

The trio of freshman shortstop Carly Jaworski (Lemont, Ill./Lemont), junior first baseman Kelsey Ullrich (Winfield, Ill./Wheaton North) and senior third baseman/outfielder Jessica Rourke (Lockport, Ill./Lockport) were a combined 12-for-19 (.631) against NDC pitching with two home runs and 10 total RBI on the afternoon.

Jaworski was 5-for-6 with four runs scored and a RBI. Ullrich was 4-for-6 with a homer and five RBI, while Rourke was 3-for-7 with a round-tripper and four RBI.

"It was a good sweep today," Lewis head softball coach George DiMatteo said. "Great to see our bats come alive with so many run-producing hits.

"We're on a mini-roll right now, so we need to keep it going!"

With the sweep, Lewis is now 7-10, while the Falcons fall to 6-11 on the season.

In the opener, the Flyers scored in six out of seven innings for the victory. Jaworski (2 runs, RBI) and Rourke (3 RBI, run, 2-run HR) both went 3-for-3 at the dish to lead Lewis offensively. Ullrich added two hits and a RBI in the win.

Lewis junior Kelly Bowler (Lockport, Ill./Lockport) picked up the win for the Flyers in the circle. Bowler (3-4) struck out a season-high nine batters and allowed two runs - one earned - and four hits for the complete-game victory. Her counterpart Mackenzie Wallace (0-5) was tagged with the loss, allowing five runs and eight hits in 2.2 innings of work.

Ullrich (2-for-3, 4 RBI, run) was the catalyst offensively for the Flyers in the nightcap, as both of her hits accounted for two RBI, with a two-run single and a two-run homer. Jaworski and junior designated hitter Ali Brems (Kenosha, Wis./Harborside) were the only other Flyers with two hits in game two. Brems added a RBI and a run scored, while freshman center fielder Dani Knaak (Bolingbrook, Ill./Bolingbrook) scored three times.

Lewis freshman pitcher Lainie Schweickert (Peru, Ill./St. Bede Academy) picked up the victory for the Flyers. Schweickert (2-2) struck out seven batters and scattered seven hits in six innings.
