Robert Dofflemyer III (Belvidere, Ill./Belvidere) turned in a first round 73 to lead the men's golf team, who sit tied for third (308), at the Saginaw Valley State Cardinal Spring Invitational on Saturday (March 22).
Playing at the Boone Links Golf Club, Grand Valley State leads the 11-team field with a first day score of 299.
Junior
Jeremy Fraser (Frankfort, Ill./Lincoln-Way North) is two strokes off of Dofflemyer's pace with a 75, while
Ryan Frederick (Lockport, Ill./Lockport) shot a 79.
Sophomore
Alex Thode (Washington, Iowa/Washington) turned in an 81 while senior
Dan Petrarca (Mokena, Ill./Lincoln-Way East) rounded out the Flyers with an 85.
Playing as individuals, freshman
Ethan Yamada (Arvada, Colo./Ralson) turned in a 77 while senior
Mark Bermele (Evergreen Park, Ill./Brother Rice) posted a first-round 79.
