PDF Box ScoreKIRKSVILLE, Mo. – Lewis women's volleyball was two points away from completing an 0-2 comeback at Truman State on Sunday (Sept. 14), but the Bulldogs scored the final five points of the Great Lakes Valley Conference contest to defeat the Flyers 3-2 (25-23, 25-16, 23-25, 21-25, 15-13).

The Flyers started the match strong by scoring the game's first five points. However Truman State would rally to win the set and then the second set. But back came the Flyers. Junior
Alexis Davito (Crest Hill, Ill./Lockport) had an ace for point 25 in set three to make the match 2-1. Lewis led the entire fourth set to tie the match 2-2.

A 6-1 run in the fifth set saw the Flyers turn a 6-4 deficit to a 10-7 advantage. Senior
Kim Vertin (Joliet, Ill./Joliet Central) and freshman
Aly Schneider (Granger, Ind./Penn) each had two kills in the run. Â It was still a three-point advantage at 13-10 when it fell apart for the Flyers. The Bulldogs scored five straight points, three on Lewis attack errors, to win the match.

"This was a tough loss," Lewis head coach
Lorelee Smith said. "To battle back after being down 0-2 and place yourself in a position to win and lose is rough. The team made great adjustments. We just have to work on finishing with confidence.

Davito finished with 21 kills and 10 digs. Senior
Leigh Barea (Battle Creek, Mich./Harper Creek) set new career highs in assists (65) and digs (20). Schneider hit .615 with 18 kills and just two errors. She also added three blocks (two solo). Senior
Amy Choi (Vernon Hills, Ill./Vernon Hills) recorded 31 digs for the second consecutive match.

Truman State improves to 5-2 (2-0 GLVC). The Flyers fall to 5-2 (1-1 GLVC). Lewis plays Missouri-St. Louis on Saturday (Sept. 20) at 5 p.m. in Lewis' first home contest of the season.
