Bourbonnais, Ill. - Lewis University junior
Amber Cook (Grayslake, Ill./Warren Township) and senior
Amy Polhemus (Hawthorn Woods, Ill./Lake Zurich) each picked up a pair of top-two finishes to help the Flyer women's track and field team take home the NAIA vs. NCAA Challlenge title, hosted by Olivet Nazarene, on Saturday (Jan. 24) afternoon.
Cook took home the triple jump title with a career-best and NCAA Provisional setting mark of 11.88m (38'11 3/4") and placed second in the high jump with a leap of 1.55m (5'1"). Polhemus won the 400-meter dash (58.67) and was a runner-up in the 60-meter hurdles (9.49).
Lewis finished with 170 points, followed by Olivet Nazarene (133), Bethel (Ind.) (115), St. Ambrose (87.5), St. Francis (Ill.) (68) and Calvin (63.5).
"We had another great meet today," Lewis head women's track and field coach
Dana Schwarting said. "We continue to improve in all areas and we're really hitting on all cylinders right now."
Flyer senior
Rebecca Priesler (Romeoville, Ill./Romeoville) continues to impress with a winning and NCAA Provisional pole vault of 3.80m (12'5 1/2").
Lewis junior
Chantel Stennis (Bolingbrook, Ill./Bolingbrook) won the 200-meter dash with a time of 25.14, while sophomore
Stephanie Nielsen (Racine, Wis./Case) took home the 800-meter run (2:20.29) title. Lewis junior
Kristen Bonsor (Antioch, Ill./Glenbrook North) placed second behind Nielsen with a time of 2:20.59.
Stennis and Bonsor ran a leg of the winning Distance Medley Relay (11:58.45) along with sophomore
Amanda Farrough (South Bend, Ind./Clay) and freshman
Zoe Mead (Princeton, Ill./Princeton). That time is currently the best in the country.Â
Lewis took home first and second place in the long jump, as sophomore
Jackie Marchildon (Saline, Mich./Saline) jumped 5.45m (17'10 1/2"), followed by senior
Kayla King (Chicago, Ill./Mother McAuley), who had a leap of 5.37m (17'7 1/4").
Flyer sophomore
Andrea Holm (Plainfield, Ill./Oswego East) finished second in the 1-mile run (5:25.28), while freshman
Keanu Taylor (Bourbonnais, Ill./Bradley-Bourbonnais) was a runner-up in the triple jump with a mark of 11.34m (37'2 1/4").
Lewis returns to action on Saturday (Jan. 31), as the Flyers head to Allendale, Mich., to participate in the GVSU 5-Way. Action is set to begin at 5:30 PM ET.
