Naperville, Ill. -
Keyed by a school-record time of 11:38.62 from its Distance Medley Relay, the No. 13 Lewis University women's track and field team finished second overall at the Cardinal Classic, hosted by North Central College, on Friday (Feb. 20) night.

The host Cardinals won the event with 181 points, followed by Lewis (164).

"We had some really good provisional marks in a number of events tonight and a lot of season's best marks all around," Lewis head women's track and field coach Dana Schwarting said. "We are ready for the GLVC Championships!"

Lewis' quartet of junior Kristen Bonsor (Antioch, Ill./Glenbrook North), senior Amy Polhemus (Hawthorn Woods, Ill./Lake Zurich), freshman Zoe Mead (Princeton, Ill./Princeton) and sophomore Amanda Farrough (South Bend, Ind./Clay) broke the previous record of 11:56 set in 2011. That mark currently puts them third overall in NCAA Division II.

Polhemus, Mead and Farrough would later team up with junior Chantel Stennis (Bolingbrook, Ill./Bolingbrook) to win the 4x400 relay (3:56.89)

Lewis senior Rebecca Priesler (Romeoville, Ill./Romeoville) set yet another NCAA Provisional in the pole vault with a first place mark of 3.66m (12'0"), while junior Amber Cook (Grayslake, Ill./Warren Township) notched a first place and NCAA Provisional showing in the triple jump with a leap of 11.62m (38'1 1/2"). Freshman Keanu Taylor (Bourbonnais, Ill./Bradley-Bourbonnais) was second in the triple jump with a mark of 11.13m (36'6 1/4").

Flyer senior Roslyn Summerville (Wauconda, Ill./Wauconda) won the weight throw with a toss of 16.31m (53'6 1/4"), while senior Kayla King (Chicago, Ill./Mother McAuley) captured the 60-meter dash (7.89) title. King added a second place finish in the long jump with a leap of 5.26m (17'3 1/4").

Lewis sophomore Arely Castillo (Joliet, Ill./Joliet Central) placed second overall in the 3,000-meter run (11:35.35).

Lewis returns to action next Saturday (Feb. 28), as the Flyers head to Indianapolis to participate in the 2015 Great Lakes Valley Conference Indoor Championships. The meet is scheduled to begin at 9 AM ET.
