Indianapolis, Ind. -
The No. 9 Lewis University women's track and field team, led by two championships, holds a commanding lead following the first day of the 2015 Great Lakes Valley Conference Indoor Championships, hosted by the University of Indianapolis, at the Athletics and Recreation Center on Saturday (Feb. 28).

The Flyers racked up 45 points followed by 30 points from second-place Indianapolis.

"We got the job done today, because we did what we had to do and we qualified most of our people to finals," Lewis head women's track and field coach Dana Schwarting said.

Lewis sophomore Phoenix Smallwood (Princeton, Ill./Princeton) picked up the long jump title with a personal-best jump of 5.52m (18'1 1/2"). The Flyers also received a title from their Distance Medley Relay team of sophomore Andrea Holm (Plainfield, Ill./Oswego East), junior Daisy Martinez (Berwyn, Ill./Morton West), freshman Zoe Mead (Princeton, Ill./Princeton) and sophomore Amanda Farrough (South Bend, Ind./Clay). That quartet crossed the finish line with a NCAA Provisional showing of 12:10.79.

The Flyers received a second-place and NCAA Provisional heave of 16.38m (53'9") in the weight throw from senior Roslyn Summerville (Wauconda, Ill./Wauconda).

Lewis junior Chantel Stennis (Bolingbrook, Ill./Bolingbrook) and senior Amy Polhemus (Hawthorn Woods, Ill./Lake Zurich) both advanced out of the 400-meter preliminaries. Stennis checked in with a time of 57.14, followed by Polhemus' 58.77. Stennis also advanced to the 200-meter dash finals with a NCAA Provisional time of 24.98.
