No. 4 Lewis Men's Volleyball Welcomes No. 2 Loyola To Romeoville On Wednesday

It is a battle at the top of the Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association on Wednesday (April 1) when No. 4 Lewis men's volleyball (19-2, 10-1 MIVA) hosts No. 2 Loyola (18-1, 10-1 MIVA) at Neil Carey Arena. First serve is set for 7 p.m. Fans can watch online at www.LewisFlyers.com/watch

WHEN WE LAST MET - The Flyers defeated then No. 1 in the nation Loyola 3-1 (25-21, 22-25, 25-22, 29-27) on March 9 at Gentile Arena. The win for Lewis snapped Loyola's 40-match win streak. Eric Fitterer (Edwardsville, Ill./Edwardsville) had back-to-back aces to end the match for the Flyers.

WE PLAY THE HITS - Wednesday's contest features the best two hitting teams in the MIVA. Loyola leads the league with a .366 attack percentage while Lewis ranks second at .343.
 
IN THE CAREER RALLY SCORING RECORD BOOK:
- Geoff Powell ranks fourth in kills with 1,255.
- Greg Petty is second in aces with 114. He is 25 aces shy of Drew Pickering's 139.
- Geoff Powell is ranked sixth in digs with 525.
- Bobby Walsh is second in block assists with 334. Alex Vigansky leads with 388.
- Bobby Walsh is second in total blocks with 371. Alex Vigansky leads with 440.
- Geoff Powell is fifth in points with 1,460.5.

DEFEND THAT – Geoff Powell (Claremont, Calif./Claremont) was named MIVA Defensive Player of the Week for his play last week. Powell helped the No. 4 Flyers to MIVA sweeps over Ball State and IPFW. On the week, the senior outside averaged 3.17 digs per set racking up 19 total digs as well as averaging one block per set. Powell had a double-double against Ball State with 10 kills and 10 digs. Powell also added three aces and four blocks in the match. The senior received 51 balls with only one error for the week.
 
I CAN DIG IT - Lewis libero Lucas Yanez (Burbank, Calif./John Burroughs) had a season-high for a three-set match 12 digs at IPFW on Saturday.

START IT UP – Lewis is off to their best start to a season since 1996. The Flyers opened that season 24-2 before suffering their third loss of the year. That 1996 club finished 31-5, setting school records for most wins and fewest losses in a season.
