Lisle, Ill. - The No. 7 Lewis University women's track and field team collected four first-place finishes and two NCAA Provisional showings to place third overall at the Benedictine Eagle Invitational on Saturday (April 11) afternoon.
"The women's team looked great this week," Lewis head women's track and field coach
Dana Schwarting said. "We lowered the volume of events we were competing in to get some rest, and hopefully be fresher for the home stretch of meets."
Loyola won the 15-team meet with 142 points, followed by Illinois Wesleyan (12) and Lewis (99).
Lewis junior
Chantel Stennis (Bolingbrook, Ill./Bolingbrook) won two events including a NCAA Provisional mark in the 100-meter dash (11.87) and as a member of the 4x100 relay (47.38) with seniors
Kayla King (Chicago, Ill./Mother McAuley),
Megan Marchildon (Ypsilanti, Mich./Lincoln Consolidated) and junior
Amber Cook (Grayslake, Ill./Warren Township).
Marchildon added a runner-up finish in the 100-meter hurdles (15.12), while senior
Amy Polhemus (Hawthorn Woods, Ill./Lake Zurich) was also second in the 400-meter hurdles (1:02.86). The Flyers also received a second-place high jump of 1.60m (5'3") from freshman
Eva Poznanski (Mt. Prospect, Ill./Wheeling).
Flyer sophomore
Amanda Farrough (South Bend, Ind./Clay) picked up a victory in the 800-meter run (2:17.15), while senior
Rebecca Preisler (Romeoville, Ill./Romeoville) won the pole vault with a provo of 3.94m (12'11").
Lewis returns to action on Thursday (April 16), as the Flyers head to Lawrence, Kansas to participate in the Kansas Relays.
