Allendale, Mich. - The No. 15 Lewis University women's track and field team advanced to the finals of two different events in second day action of the NCAA Division II Outdoor Track and Field Championships, hosted by Grand Valley State, on Friday (May 22).
Lewis senior
Megan Marchildon (Ypsilanti, Mich./Lincoln Consolidated) advanced out of the preliminary heats to the finals of both the 100-meter hurdles (13.97) and as a member of the 4x400 relay (3:44.15) along with freshman
Zoe Mead (Princeton, Ill./Princeton), senior
Amy Polhemus (Hawthorn Woods, Ill./Lake Zurich) and junior
Chantel Stennis (Bolingbrook, Ill./Bolingbrook). Marchildon also finished 15th overall in the heptathlon (4,805 points).
"We have a big group competing tomorrow and all of the sacrifice is paying off for everyone," Lewis head women's track and field coach
Dana Schwarting said.
Stennis was unable to advance out of the preliminary heats of the 200-meter dash with an 11th-place time of 24.20.
Central Missouri still leads the meet with 51 points, while the Flyers are tied for 12th with eight points.
Lewis will conclude the NCAA Championships on Saturday (May 23), as junior
Amber Cook (Grayslake, Ill./Warren Township) will open the competition in the triple jump at 12:45 PM ET.
