Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 AUBURNDALE, Fla. – Lewis baseball earned a win and a loss on Friday (March 4) in a pair of non-conference contests in Florida. Lewis rallied for a 10-9 win over Tiffin in the morning contest, before falling 6-1 to Ashland in the nightcap.

Game One – Lewis 10, Tiffin 9
Two ninth inning runs gave Lewis a come-from-behind victory over the Tiffin Dragons.

Lewis tied the game in a flash in the ninth on a leadoff home run by sophomore Neal Tyrell (Minooka, Ill./Minooka). He took the third pitch of the at bat over the left field wall. A one-out single, hit by pitch and wild pitch followed to put runners on second and third for freshman Neil Fischer (St. Louis, Mo./St. John Vianney). The newcomer delivered a sacrifice fly to score senior Austin Mastela (Homer Glen, Ill./Lockport) for the game-winning run.

Senior Phil Warner (South Elgin, Ill./St. Charles North) closed the door in the bottom of the ninth for the save.

Early on, it didn't look like the contest would be decided by a single run. The Flyers jumped out to a 6-0 lead with a solo run in the first and five in the second. It didn't last long. Tiffin put up six of their own in the second and then three in the third to go up 9-6. Lewis answered back with two runs in the top of the fourth to make the score 9-8. It stayed that way until Lewis' ninth inning rally.

"The bats cam alive in game one against Tiffin and we needed it," Lewis head coach Tim McDonough said. "Dalton (Hottle) wasn't as sharp as usual today, but the bullpen did a great job and we fought hard offensively. I was proud of how we battled back."

Tyrell finished with four hits and four runs scored. Sophomore Ethan Bloom (Schaumburg, Ill./Hoffman Estates) hit his third home run of the season, matching last season's total. Senior Kurt Becker (Palatine, Ill./Palatine) and junior Brandon Collins (Tinley Park, Ill./Lincoln Way North) also added home runs.

Junior Brad Elmore (Bolingbrook, Ill./Bolingbrook) earned the win for the Flyers. Marc Deitsch suffered the loss for Tiffin.

Tiffin falls to 5-8 with the loss.

Game Two – Ashland 6, Lewis 1
Lewis' lone run against Ashland came in the fifth inning when sophomore Sam Cybulski (Clarendon Hills, Ill./Lyons Township) came around on an error. It was a tight 3-1 game until the seventh when Ashland put up a three spot to make the score 6-1.

Becker finished with a pair of hits for the Flyers.

Junior Sam Couch (Bolingbrook, Ill./Joliet Catholic) allowed three runs (two earned) in 7.0 innings for the loss. Jake Baldwin earned the win for the Eagles.

"We weren't as competitive as we needed to be against a very good Ashland team," McDonough said. "Our margin for error is very thin and we didn't play well enough in any facet of the game to win."

Lewis is now 4-3 after their two games on Friday. Ashland is 2-2
