Men’s Volleyball continues homestand against Saint Francis and Benedictine this weekend

ROMEOVILLE, Ill. – Lewis University's men's volleyball continues its nine match homestand hosting Saint Francis (Pa.) and Benedictine this weekend. The 11th ranked Flyers take on the 14th ranked Red Flash on Friday at 7 p.m. at Neil Carey Arena and then take on the Eagles at 7 p.m. on Saturday evening.

Lewis (1-3) snapped a three-game losing streak with a straight sets win over George Mason this past Saturday. The Flyers trailed by five points late in the opening set and were down two set points but stormed back to win 28-26 on a block by Ryan Coenen (Franklin, WI/Franklin) and Danny Maurer (Oviedo, FL/Hagerty).

The Flyers led wire-to-wire in the second set and then had an attack percentage of .846 in the third set to complete the sweep. Julian Moses (Atlanta, GA/Atlanta International School) came off the bench to lead the way with 10 kills while Coenen finished with nine kills.

Coenen continues to pace the Lewis offense averaging 3.54 kills per set. Kyle Bugee (Los Altos, CA/Homestead) is averaging 2.57 k/set and Mitch Perinar (Channahon, IL/Minooka) is contributing 2.00 kills per set. Matt Yoshimoto (Ventura, CA/Adolfo Camarillo) quarterbacks the Flyer attack dishing out 6.50 assists per set and Jake Walenga (Frankfort, IL/Lincoln Way North) leads the way on the defensive side of the ball recording 1.31 digs per set.

ABOUT SAINT FRANCIS: The Red Flash enter Friday night's contest with a record of 4-2 after picking up back-to-back sweeps against Alderson Broaddus and Mount Olive at home last weekend. SFU has played three teams ranked in the top 15 in the AVCA going 1-2 in those matches. It knocked off eighth ranked Stanford in a four set match but fell in four to Cal State Northridge and was swept by second ranked Long Beach State.

Cole Thompson leads the Red Flash attack averaging 3.50 kills per set while Stephen Broswell and Brandon Buck are contributing 2.52 kills per set respectively. Joseph Koszelak runs the offense handing out 8.52 assists per set and on the defensive side of the ball Koszelak has recorded 38 digs and Ryan Alu has 33 digs.

ABOUT BENEDICTINE: The Eagles began their season with a pair of wins last weekend against Augustana and 14th ranked Marymount University. They'll play host to fifth ranked New York University this Friday before making the trip to Neil Carey on Saturday evening.

Adrial Rivas led the Benedictine attack last week recording 25 kills in seven sets and was joined by Nick Malak who had 22 kills in seven sets. Markus Riemer averaged 9.40 assists per set and was also the leader on the defensive side of the ball recording 17 digs.
