ROMEOVILLE, Ill. – The eighth ranked Lewis Flyer men's volleyball team hosts sixth ranked Loyola this Saturday evening at 7 p.m. at Neil Carey Arena. Saturday's match kicks off the final homestand of 2018 for the Flyers and will be Green Out Night.
Lewis, enters the weekend at 14-7 overall and 5-2 in MIVA play, went 1-2 last weekend at the Outrigger Invitational in Honolulu, Hawaii. The Flyers dropped decisions to No. 2 Hawaii (12-25, 22-25, 19-25) and No. 4 BYU (15-25, 25-18, 23-25, 24-26) before ending the weekend with a victory over No. 11 Penn State (25-17, 22-25, 25-22, 25-22).
Ryan Coenen (Franklin, WI/Franklin) was named to the Outrigger Invitational All-Tournament team after averaging 3.55 kills and 1.55 digs per set. He also served seven aces and had six blocks.
Loyola (16-4, 6-1 MIVA) split its two matches in California last weekend. The Ramblers bounced back from a 24-26, 23-25, 25-17, 23-25 loss at No. 14 Concordia Irvine last Friday by sweeping No. 7 Pepperdine, 25-21, 26-24, 25-20 on Saturday. Saturday's match begins a stretch for Loyola that sees it play seven of its final nine matches on the road.
Collin Mahan leads the Ramblers with 3.48 kills per set and is hitting .328 for the season. Ricky Gevis and Jeff Jendryk are averaging 2.36 and 2.17 kills respectively. Garrett Zolg runs the offense and is dishing out 10.3 assists and also leads the team in digs with 2.24 per set.
Lewis and Loyola meet for the 57
th time on Saturday night. The Ramblers hold a 34-22 advantage in the all-time series, including a 14-12 mark in Romeoville. The Ramblers won the first meeting this season in straight sets on Feb. 28.
