Lewis Men’s Volleyball Heads East For Pair Of Non-Conference Matches

ROMEOVILLE, Ill. – The seventh ranked Lewis men's volleyball team will play their final two non-conference matches of the regular season this weekend. The Flyers will take on Princeton on Saturday evening at 6 p.m. (CST) and then will take on New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT) on Monday at 6 p.m. (CDT).

Last Time Out: Lewis took sole possession of first place in the MIVA race rallying to defeat rival Loyola in four sets at Gentile Arena last Friday. The win was the seventh straight for the Flyers and gives them a one-game lead over the Ramblers heading into the second half of conference play. Julian Moses (Atlanta, GA/Atlanta International School) led the way for Lewis recording 16 kills while finishing with a career-high .609 hitting percentage. His performance was good enough to earn MIVA Offensive Player of the Week honors. Ryan Coenen (Franklin, WI/Franklin) added 14 kills in the contest while Matt Yoshimoto (Ventura, CA/Adolfo Camarillo) had 46 assists and six digs and Kyle Bugée had six digs and six assisted blocks.

A look at the Tigers: Princeton has been hot over the last month winning seven of their last eight contests, including a five-set win over NJIT on Tuesday evening. The Tigers took the first two sets 25-20 and 25-19 but the Highlanders rallied to win the next two 25-18 and 25-14 to force a fifth and deciding set. Princeton was able to avoid the reverse sweep by winning the finale 17-15. Parker Dixon and George Huhmann lead the Tiger offense averaging 3.54 and 3.27 kills per set respectively. Joe Kelly is distributing 9.84 assists per set while Greg Luck is the leader in the backcourt with 1.21 digs per set. Princeton is averaging 11.84 kills per set and is hitting .289 as a team.

A look at the Highlanders: NJIT enters Friday's rematch against Princeton with a record of 4-10 after falling to the Tigers in five sets on Tuesday. The Highlanders have dropped six straight after winning four in a row. Alvaro Gimeno leads the NJIT attack averaging 3.08 kills per set while Piotr Namiotko is contributing 2.72 kills per set. Roque Nido and Ricardo Whitaker have split time at the setter position and are averaging 7.38 and 7.27 assists per set respectively. Gimeno is the leader on the defensive side of the ball averaging 1.38 digs per set.

Up Next: The Flyers return home next Friday (March 15) to take on Loyola at 7 p.m. at Neil Carey Arena.
