ROMEOVILLE, Ill. – The No. 7 Lewis men's volleyball team wraps up its regular season hosting Quincy this Friday (April 5) at 7 p.m. and Lindenwood on Saturday (April 6) at 7 p.m. The Flyers will honor seniors Danny Mauer,
Mitch Perinar (Channahon, IL/Minooka),
Jake Walenga (Frankfort, IL/Lincoln-Way North) and
Nick Vander Zanden (Tinley Park, IL/Andrew) prior to Friday night's match and
Julian Moses (Atlanta, GA/Atlanta International School),
Michael Simmons (Aurora, IL/Waubonsie Valley) and
Matt Yoshimoto (Ventura, CA/Adolfo Camarillo) before Saturday's match.
Last Time Out: Lewis swept a pair of home matches over McKendree and Ohio State to maintain its one match lead over Loyola for the top spot in the Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association (MIVA) standings.
Ryan Coenen (Franklin, WI/Franklin) paced the Flyer offense averaging 3.83 kills per set while Yoshimoto distributed 9.33 assists per set. Simmons and Perinar averaged 1.83 and 1.67 digs per set respectively.
MIVA Tournament: Lewis is guaranteed of one of the top two spots in the MIVA Tournament and clinch at least a share of the MIVA regular season title and No. 1 seed in the MIVA Tournament with a win over Quincy. The Flyers can clinch the outright title with two wins this weekend.
Acing His Way Into The Record Books: With his five aces against Ohio State last Saturday, Yoshimoto moved past
Drew Pickering (Wauwatosa, Wis./Wauwatosa West) for most service aces in a single season in the rally scoring era with 56. He is eight aces away from becoming the single season record holder regardless of era in service aces. Yoshimoto's 135 career aces rank second all-time in the rally scoring era and overall. He needs five aces to pass Pickering for the top spot in the rally scoring era and 19 to pass Victor Rivera for the overall record.
About Quincy: The Hawks enter Friday's match having lost five straight and 15 of their last 16 overall. This past weekend they dropped home contests to Purdue Fort Wayne (3-0) and Ball State (3-1). Omari Wheeler leads the offensive attack with 3.95 kills per set while Adam Rogan is distributing 8.72 assists per set. On the defensive side of the ball, Noam Hannoun is averaging 3.02 digs per set and Blake Sprecher is averaging 0.86 blocks per set.
About Lindenwood: The Lions split a pair of five-set matches at home last weekend defeating No. 13 Ball State before falling to No. 15 Purdue Fort Wayne last Saturday. Nick Stevenson was named the MIVA Defensive Player of the Week on Tuesday. He recorded a match-high 19 digs in the victory over the Cardinals last Friday and followed it up with a 10-dig performance against the Mastodons on Saturday.
Series Stuff: Friday's match marks the 32nd meeting all-time between Lewis and Quincy since 2005 with the Flyers holding a 30-1 advantage and have won 28 straight including a straight sets win earlier this season at Quincy.
Saturday's match with Lindenwood marks the 19th meeting all-time between the Lions and Lewis with the Flyers holding a 16-2 lead and have won 13 in a row, including a straight sets win earlier this season.
