ROMEOVILLE, Ill. – Lewis' men's basketball team heads to St. Louis this weekend to wrap up the regular season against No. 18 Missouri-St. Louis on Thursday at 7:30 p.m. and at Lindenwood on Saturday afternoon at 3 p.m.
Last Time Out – The Flyers had five players reach double figures in scoring in their 85-82 loss at Southern Indiana last Saturday.
Anthony D'Avanzo (Harwood Heights, Ill./Notre Dame) and
Adam Pischke (Cary, Ill./Marian Central Catholic) led the way with 18 points apiece while
Austin Boucher (Markle, Ind./Fort Wayne North Side) added a career-high 14 points off the bench and
Artese Stapleton (Chicago, Ill./Kenwood) and
Dre Bell (Detroit, Mich./River Rouge) finished with 12 and 11 points respectively.
Where They Stand – Heading into the final week of the regular season, Lewis is currently 10th in the GLVC Points Ratings System (PRS) which determines the eight participants as well as seeding for the GLVC Tournament.
Roaring 20s – The Flyers have had three different players reach the 20-point plateau in a single game this season. D'Avanzo leads the way with eight games of at least 20 points while Bell has accomplished it four times and Stapleton has done it once.
Record Book Watch – D'Avanzo is four rebounds shy of 500 for his career and 111 points from becoming the 44th player in school history to reach 1,000 points. Pischke is currently ninth in school history in three-point field goals made with 147 and needs six more made three's to move into seventh all-time. He ranks just outside the top 10 all-time in assists with 285. He needs three assists to pass Lance Harris (1988-91) for 10th.
Jake Reinhart (Bloomington, Ill./Central Catholic) is currently 10th all-time in three-point field goal percentage at 40.8 percent (109-for-267).
About Missouri-St. Louis – Yaakema Rose Jr., averages 14.3 ppg to lead the Tritons (23-5, 14-4 GLVC), who have won three of their last four after defeating William Jewell 74-60 and Rockhurst 67-49 last week. UMSL currently holds the top spot in the GLVC's PRS and was ranked sixth in the first set of Midwest Regional rankings.
Series vs. Missouri-St. Louis – Lewis holds a 22-9 advantage in the series against the Tritons dating back to 1997. UMSL won the first matchup this season 77-63 in Romeoville on January 25. Thursday's contest will be the first meeting between the two schools since Jan. 16, 2016 when the Flyers came away with a 71-68 victory.
About Lindenwood – The Lions enter Thursday's contest with Illinois Springfield with a record of 10-16 overall, 4-14 in the GLVC and have lost 13 of their last 15 contests. LWU split its two games last weekend defeating Rockhurst 86-77 and then lost to William Jewell 88-87 on Saturday. TJ Crockett leads the Lions and the GLVC in scoring with 21.5 points per game.
Series vs. Lindenwood – Saturday's game will be the second meeting all-time between Lewis and Lindenwood. The Flyers defeated the Lions earlier this season 71-62 on Jan. 23 in Romeoville.
