Lewis Men’s Track And Field Finishes Fourth At GLVC Indoor Championships

INDIANAPOLIS – Lewis' men's track and field team recorded 16 scoring performances on Sunday to allow the Flyers to finish in fourth place overall at the Great Lakes Valley Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships at the University of Indianapolis.

The Flyers finished with 76.5 points in the meet – just three points in back of Indianapolis and a half point behind Southwest Baptist – and had 20 scoring performances over the course of the weekend.

60-meter hurdles – 3. Connor Wagner (Elgin, Ill./Burlington Central) 8.38 seconds; 7. Chaz Sales (Merrillville, Ind./Merrillville) 8.64 seconds.
200-meter dash – 7. Reese Kocanda (Plainfield, Ill./Plainfield South) 22.94 seconds.
400-meter dash – 5. Will DeBolt (Naperville, Ill./Naperville North) 50.48 seconds; 7. Sales 50.74 seconds; 8. Connor Swanson (Newark, Ill./Newark) 51.73 seconds.
800 meters – 1. John Partee (Plainfield, Ill./Plainfield South) 1:54.21; 7. Dan Ford (Romeoville, Ill./Romeoville) 1:58.73.
Mile – 2. Ross McCormick (Seneca, Ill./Seneca) 4:19.10; 4. Anthony Pena (East Moline, Ill./Pleasant Valley (Iowa)) 4:23.46.
4x400 meter relay – 2. Lewis (DeBolt, Wagner, Jibreel Brown (Orland Hills, Ill./Carl Sandburg HS) and Partee) 3:23.38.
High Jump – 2. Michael Lyons (Plainfield, Ill./Plainfield Central HS) 2.00 meters (6'6.75").
Triple Jump – 7. Zach Olenek (Algonquin, Ill./St. Edward Central Catholic) 13.78 meters (45'2.5").
Shot Put – 6. Fargo Thornton (Plainfield, Ill./Plainfield South) 15.32 meters (50'3.25").
Heptathlon – 7. Gerwin De Hann 3,831 points; 8. Lyons 2,981 points.

Missouri S&T won the men's team championship by a 28.5-point margin over Indianapolis.

Lewis won the GLVC's James R. Spalding Team's Sportsmanship award and Will DeBolt (Naperville, Ill./Naperville North) was the Flyer's Spalding Sportsmanship Award individual honoree.

Lewis will find out on Wednesday how many athletes it'll be sending to the national meet on March 13th and 14th in Birmingham, Ala.
