NEW ORLEANS – With the regular-season in the books, Lewis' men's and women's cross country teams will enter the postseason ranked No. 16 and No. 18, respectively, in the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Association's national polls.
Both teams finished second last weekend at the Lewis Conference Crossover. The women had three runners finish in the top 20 led by Kassday Learn who finished sixth while
Stephanie Jarvis (Hortonville, Wis./Hortonville) finished ninth and
Anna Kozak (Lockport, Ill./Lockport Township) was 20th. The Flyers scored 106 points in the race finishing behind Grand Valley State for the team title.
Four runners finished in the top 25 for the men last Saturday.
Dustin Macuiba (Gurnee, Ill./Warren Township) led the way with an eighth place finish while
Garrett White (Alsip, Ill./Alan B. Shepherd) finished 12th,
Anthony Farmer (Elgin, Ill./Burlington Central) finished 15th and
Anthony Pena (East Moline, Ill./Pleasant Valley (Iowa)) was 24th. Lewis finished with 87 points and finished behind Colorado Christian.
Overall, the Great Lakes Valley Conference touted two men's programs and three women's programs. Both men's teams were ranked in the top 20 and all three women's teams were ranked in the top 20. The Flyer men were behind Southern Indiana who was ranked 12th. The Flyer women were behind Southern Indiana and Southwest Baptist who checked in at 13 and 14 respectively.
Lewis' next race will be the 2021 GLVC Cross Country Championships on Saturday, Oct. 23, at the Lewis Cross Country Course in Romeoville, Ill.
