ROMEOVILLE, Ill. – Lewis University's women's soccer team seeks to return to the win column as it heads to Kansas City for a pair of matches this weekend. The Flyers will take on Rockhurst on Friday evening at 5 p.m. and then will conclude the weekend with a visit to Liberty, Mo., on Sunday afternoon to take on William Jewell at 12 p.m.
Lewis looks to bounce back after a tough weekend that saw them drop a pair of 1-0 decisions to Truman State and Quincy.
Race for the GLVC Tournament – With six games to play the Flyers are looked in a tight battle for a spot in the GLVC Tournament. Entering play this weekend they are tied for eighth with Missouri S&T with 11 points and are one point ahead of Southern Indiana and two points ahead of Maryville and Quincy. Lewis is one point behind Illinois Springfield for seventh, two points behind Missouri-St. Louis and Lindenwood for fifth and four points behind Truman State for fourth.
Drury currently holds the top spot in the standings with 24 points and is two points ahead of McKendree for second and eight points ahead of Indianapolis in third.
League Leaders – Cali Havelka-Vanderplow (Hinsdale, Ill./Hinsdale South) is tied for fourth in the conference in assists with three and is tied for 10th in points with nine.
Melisa Hadzic (Wheaton, Ill./Wheaton Warrenville South) is tied for fifth with two game-winning goals and
Lucy Clark (Bristol, England) is fourth in goals against average (0.63), sixth in save percentage at 81.8 and tied for ninth with 27 saves.
About Rockhurst – The Hawks enter Friday's contest with a record of 3-7-2 overall, are 2-4-2 in the GLVC and have dropped three straight. Last weekend they were shutout in back-to-back games by Southern Indiana (1-0) and McKendree (3-0). Rockhurst has scored seven goals as a team this season and are led by Gabby Hennessy and Olivia Schwarzen with two goals apiece while Olivia Van Belle and Elle Guttmann have tallied a goal each. Taylor James has played a majority of the minutes in goal and has made 45 saves with a goals against average of 1.23.
About William Jewell – The Cardinals are coming off a tough weekend that saw them get shutout twice at No. 21 UIndy and Southern Indiana. WJC (0-11-1, 0-9 GLVC) enters Friday's contest against Illinois Springfield seeking its first win of the season. Clara Fronabarger is ranked fourth in the GLVC in assists with three and leads the team with 20 shots. Four players have scored this season for the Cardinals all of which are first career goals. Emily Glassman has made 45 saves this season which is good for fourth in the GLVC.
Series Stuff – Rockhurst leads the all-time series against Lewis 12-1-3 dating back to 2005 and is 7-0-4 in the last 11 meetings. Last season the two teams played to a scoreless draw in double overtime at Lewis Stadium. The Hawks are 8-0-1 against the Flyers in Kansas City.
Lewis leads the all-time series against William Jewell 6-5 and has won the last three meetings in the series. The Flyers defeated the Cardinals 1-0 in OT last season at Lewis Stadium. Lewis has won the two last meetings in Liberty by a combined score of 5-0.
