INDIANAPOLIS – Lewis University's men's swimming team recorded four NCAA Division II Swimming and Diving Championship 'B' standard qualifying marks on the final day of the IUPUI House of Champions meet at the IUPUI Natatorium. The Flyers finished the three day event in fifth place with a score of 840.5 points.
Lewis recorded seven top finishes during Saturday evening's finals session.
Jackson Mugg (Cheyenne, Wyoming/Cheyenne East) and
Rhys Taylor (Nottingham, England/National C of E Academy) finished fourth and fifth with times of 15:54.53 and 15:58.30 respectively to each pick up qualifying marks for the national meet.
Isaac Rolfsen (Kalamazoo, Mich./Homeschool) finished 13th in the event while
Michael Roach (New Market, Maryland/Linganore) came in 20th.
Mariano Sosa (Olavarria, Argentina/) picked up the third qualifying standard of the evening placing third in the 200 back with a time of 1:48.21 while
Miguel Turcios (Guatemala City, Guatemala/Canterbury School) finished eighth in a time of 1:52.80 and
Kevin Soltys (Mount Prospect, Ill./Prospect) was 19th at 1:55.04.
Ethan Fox (Plainfield, Ill./Plainfield Central) and
Russell Smith (Stafford, Va./Colonial Forge) finished 24th and 29th in the 100 free with times of 47.27 and 47.62 respectively.
Taylor picked up his second top 10 finish of the evening as he was seventh in the 200 breast in a time of 2:01.74.
Adrian Wlodarz (Elk Grove Village, Ill./Elk Grove),
Alec Danko (Plainfield, Ill./Plainfield Central) and
Jabari Ramsey (Land O' Lakes, Fla./Land O' Lakes) finished 12th, 14th and 15th in the race with times of 2:06.50, 2:07.39 and 2:07.42 respectively.
Ruben van Leeuwen (Eindhoven, The Netherlands/CIU/Christelyk Lyceum Veenendaal) took third in the 200 fly finishing in a time of 1:49.06 to pick up a qualifying time.
Carter Thoss (Orland Park, Ill./Carl Sandburg),
Ari Kissel (Berlin, Germany/) and
Lucas Mourao (Sao Paulo, Brazil/Colegio Presbiteriano Mackenzie) also recorded top 20 finishes in the event. Thoss was 15th at 1:56.26, Kissel was 18th in a time of 1:56.98 and Mourao finished 19th with a time of 1:57.12.
The Flyer 400 relay squad of van Leeuwen, Wlodarz, Fox and Kissel finished fifth at 3:03.29.
Lewis returns to the pool on Saturday, Dec. 4, hosting Valparaiso in a dual meet beginning at 1 p.m. at the Lewis Pool.
