ROMEOVILLE, Ill. – Lewis Univeristy's women's track and field team won seven events and had 14 top three finishes at the Olivet Nazarene Invite in Bourbonnais, Ill., on Saturday afternoon. The Flyers also achieved four NCAA Division II Indoor Track and Field Championship provisional qualifying marks during the Invite.
Jada Hoffman (Chicago, Ill./Kenwood Academy) and Rose Ogbuli finished first and second in the 60 meter dash with Hoffman winning the event in a time of 7.59 seconds to earn a provisional marks for nationals. Ogbuli finished second edging out Tal. Jones-Wright from the University of St. Francis. Ogbuli finished with a time of 7.967 seconds to Jones-Wright time of 7.969 seconds.
Natasha Bernett (McAlpin, Ill./Lane Tech) won the 60 meter hurdles with a time of 9.03 seconds.
Hoffman added her second event win of the day taking the top spot in the 200 meters in a time of 25.19 seconds.
Anna Laudizio (Plainfield, Ill./Plainfield North) and
Alecea Cardillo (Plainfield, Ill./Plainfield North) finished first and second respectively in the long jump. Laudizio won the event with a jump of 5.53 meters (18-01.75) while Cardillo jumped 5.25 meters (17-02.75).
Lewis took the top three spots in the triple jump with Cardillo winning the event with a leap of 12.14 meters (39-10.00) while Laudizio was second at 12.07 meters (39-07.25) and Bernett was third at 11.09 meters (36-04.75). Cardillo and Laudizio both earned qualifying marks for nationals.
Jamie Poppen (Ballwin, Mo./Parkway West) won the pole vault clearing a height of 3.50 meters (11-05.75).
Kylie Wymer (Rock Island, Ill./Rock Island) and
Ratkoslava Karac (Greenfield, Wis./Greenfield) finished first and second respectively in the shot put. Wymer achieved a qualifying mark to nationals with a heave of 13.80 meters (45-03.50) while Karac's best throw was 13.60 meters (44-07.50).
Wymer,
Alyssa Betlejeski (Shorewood, Ill./Joliet West) and Karac went second, third and seventh in the weight throw. Wymer had a toss of 15.95 meters (52-04.00), Betlejeski's best heave was 15.38 meters (50-05.00) and Karac's best mark was 14.14 meters (46-04.75).
The Flyers return to the track on Friday (Feb. 26) at the Lenoir-Rhyne Home Opener in Hickory, N.C.
