ROMEOVILLE, Ill. – Lewis University's women's lacrosse team returns to action on Sunday afternoon hosting Carroll University at Lewis Stadium at 12 p.m. Spectators will be allowed for Sunday's contest provided they fill out a COVID screening either online at the link above or at the game on Sunday.
The Flyers (0-1) look for their first win of the season after opening last Sunday with a loss to Concordia-St. Paul. Freshman
Paige Zahler (Verona, Wis./Verona) scored three goals in her Lewis debut.
Meltonique Bowen (Pembroke Pines, Fla./Flanagan) scooped up seven ground balls in the contest while sophomore
Brigid Fornek (Lawrenceville, Ga./Grayson) made 11 saves and picked up five ground balls. Sophomore
Paige Bracey (Apex, N.C./Apex) won three draw controls.
Sunday's contest will be the season opener for the Pioneers who finished the shortened 2020 season with a record of 4-2. They return their top two goal scorers from a season ago in seniors Clara Jelacic and Michaela Johnson who had 25 and 23 goals respectively. Junior Rachel Fordham led the team in assists with 15.
Jelacic also led the Pios in ground balls with 48 and won 68 draw controls. Sophomore Alicia Van Dale saw a majority of the action in goal stopping 34 shots and had a goals against average of 10.14.
