ROMEOVILLE, Ill. – Lewis University junior
Jada Hoffman (Chicago, Ill./Kenwood Academy) set a new school record in the 100 meters on Saturday afternoon at Grand Valley State's Extra Weekend Meet in Allendale, Mich. The Flyers won seven events on Saturday and recorded 14 top five finishes.
Hoffman finished second in the first section of the 100-meter finals with a time of 11.61 she ran with a tail wind of 3.2. Hoffman's time also improved her NCAA provisional qualifying mark in the event. Her time broke Ashuanta McCormick's school record of 11.65 seconds which she set in 2003.
Rose-Marie Ogbuli (Plainfield, Ill./Plainfield East) took fourth in the event with a time of 12.00 seconds flat.
Ogbuli came back later in the afternoon to win the 200 meters with a time of 25.12 seconds.
Grace Harris (Dousman, Wis./Homeschooled) claimed the top spot in the 400 dash with a time of 56.94 seconds.
Natasha Bernett (McAlpin, Ill./Lane Tech) won both the 100 and 400 hurdles with times of 13.76 seconds and 1:04.24 respectively. She improved in her provisional qualifying mark in the 100 hurdles. Her time is currently fourth fastest in Division II.
Kylie Wymer (Rock Island, Ill./Rock Island) won the shot put on Saturday with a heave of 14.93 meters (48'11.75") and also improved her provisional mark in the event. Her throw was second best in school history and currently ranks ninth in Division II.
The Flyer 4x100 meter relay team of Hoffman,
Allison Heinzer (Sugar Grove, Ill./Kaneland HS), Harris and Ogbuli finished second with a time of 46.46 seconds.
Lewis' 4x400 meter relay squad of Bernett, Heinzer, Hoffman and Harris also finished second in a time of 3:53.49.
The Flyers took three of the top four spots in the long jump with
Jaden Christian (Braidwood, Ill./Braidwood (Reed-Custer)) finishing second in the event with a jump of 5.23 meters (17'2"),
Anna Laudizio (Plainfield, Ill./Plainfield North) took third with a leap of 5.22 meters (17'1.5") and
Alecea Cardillo (Plainfield, Ill./Plainfield North) came in fourth at 5.14 meters (16'10.5").
Jamie Poppen (Ballwin, Mo./Parkway West) recorded a sixth-place finish in the pole vault clearing the bar at 3.56 meters (11'8").
Lewis returns to the track beginning next Thursday (May 6) at the GLVC Outdoor Track and Field Championships hosted by Missouri S&T in Rolla, Mo.
