ROMEOVILLE, Ill. – Lewis University's
Jada Hoffman (Chicago, Ill./Kenwood Academy) broke her own school record in the 100 meters on Saturday afternoon at the St. Francis Fighting Chance Invite at Joliet Memorial Stadium. The Flyers turned in 12 top six finishes including four first place finishes.
Hoffman won the 100 meters in a blazing time of 11.49 seconds breaking the record she set two weekends ago at Grand Valley State. Her time is an automatic qualifying mark for the NCAA Division II Outdoor Track and Field Championships and is currently the third fastest in Division II.
She followed it up by winning the 200 meters with a time of 24.69 seconds.
Natasha Bernett (McAlpin, Ill./Lane Tech) was the winner in the 100 hurdles with a time of 13.78 seconds which moved her to sixth in the country on the performance lift for the national meet.
Kylie Wymer (Rock Island, Ill./Rock Island) won the shot put with a toss of 14.34 meters (47'0.75").
Alecea Cardillo (Plainfield, Ill./Plainfield North) and
Tsitsi Mahachi (Harare, Zimbabwe/Chisipite Senior School) finished second and third respectively in the triple jump. Cardillo's best mark was 12.02 meters (39'5.25") while Mahachi's was 11.50 meters (37'8.75").
Grace Harris (Dousman, Wis./Homeschooled) finished second in the 400 meters at 55.61 seconds while
Kyla Chalmers (Elk Grove Village, Ill./James B. Conant) came in sixth at 58.32 seconds.
Jamie Poppen (Ballwin, Mo./Parkway West) took third in the pole vault clearing the bar at a height of 3.65 meters (11'11.75").
Anna Laudizio (Plainfield, Ill./Plainfield North),
Jaden Christian (Braidwood, Ill./Braidwood (Reed-Custer)) and Cardillo came in fourth, fifth and sixth respectively in the long jump. Laudizio's best attempt was 5.49 meters (18'0.25"), Christian's was 5.45 meters (17'10.25") and Cardillo's was 5.40 meters (17'8.75").
Lewis will find out on Tuesday, May 18, at 5 p.m. (CT) how many student-athletes will compete at the NCAA Division II Outdoor Track and Field Championships at Grand Valley State May 27-29.
