ROMEOVILLE, Ill. – Lewis University's men's volleyball team will be represented at the Pan American Cup Sept. 3-9 in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic.
Tyler Mitchem (Bolingbrook, Ill./Bolingbrook HS) and
Kevin Kauling (Naperville, Ill./Neuqua Valley) will represent the Flyers as members of Team USA while
Antonio Rodriguez (Naranjito, Puerto Rico/Colegio Sagrada Familia) will represent the Flyers for the Puerto Rican squad.
Mitchem has previous experience Men's National Team experience as he recently played at the 2021 NORCECA Continental Championship. He also earned a spot on last year's Men's Collegiate National Team and also represented the U.S. at the 2019 World University Games.
Kauling, making his debut with the Men's National Team, is two-time AVCA All-American for the Flyers. He finished the season second in the nation in assists per set with 10.84 and led the MIVA in that category. He guided an offense that finished the season ranked third in the country hitting percentage at .340.
Rodriguez is also making his international debut for Puerto Rico. He appeared in six matches in 2020 and played in eight sets recording a career-high four kills and three total blocks against Urbana on Jan. 24, 2020. Rodriguez also had a service ace in the season opening win over King in 2020.
Team USA plays Mexico on Friday (Sept. 3) at 4 p.m. (CDT), then will play Puerto Rico on Saturday at 4 p.m. (CDT), the Dominican Republic on Sunday at 6 p.m. (CDT), Suriname on Saturday at 2 p.m. (CDT) and will wrap up pool play on Tuesday (Sept. 7) against Canada at 4 p.m. (CDT).
Puerto Rico opens with the Dominican Republic on Friday at 6 p.m. (CDT), then will take on Team USA on Saturday, then will play Canada on Sunday at 4 p.m. (CDT), Mexico on Monday at 4 p.m. (CDT) and will wrap up pool play next Tuesday against Suriname at 2 p.m. (CDT).
The semifinals will be held next Wednesday (Sept. 8) and the finals will be next Thursday (Sept. 9).
