Romeoville, Ill. - Senior
Matthew Torres (Westmont, IL/Math and Science Academy) placed third overall to highlight the Lewis University men's cross country team performances at the Lewis Early Bird on the Lewis Cross Country Course.
The University of Chicago placed first overall (18 points) while the Flyers came in second with 59 points. Olivet Nazarene closed out the top three with 95 points. Individually, Noah Bender of UChicago finished first overall with a final time of 18:49:04.1.
Torres led all Lewis runners with his time of 18:49:06.9 en route to his third place finish. The senior was not the only Lewis runner to finish within the top 10 as in his first race for the red and white, graduate student
Aidan Haughian (Plainfield, Ill./Plainfield Central) placed ninth with a final time of 18:49:41.0. JuniorÂ
Nick Paugys placed 13th (18:49:57.8) with his teammate, fellow juniorÂ
Leo Gartlan, close behind in 15th (18:50:02.7). JuniorÂ
Andrew Ciarlette turned in a final time of 18:50:10.7 (19th) in his first race as a Flyer while freshmanÂ
Jesse Kramer closed out the top 20 with a time of 18:50:17.9 in his first collegiate race.Â

Lewis will compete in the National Catholic Invite, hosted by Notre Dame, on Sept. 19. The race is set to begin at 3:30 p.m.
