Men’s Squad Leads GLVC Indoor Championships After Day 1

HOW IT HAPPENED IN INDIANAPOLIS
The Flyers opened the GLVC Indoor Championships in dominant fashion Friday inside the Athletics & Recreation Center in Indianapolis, hosted by the University of Indianapolis.

After the opening day of competition, the Flyers sit in first place with 52 team points, narrowly ahead of host UIndy, who is close behind with 49 points.
The throws group wasted no time making history. Levi Graham (Plainfield, Ill./Minooka) captured the GLVC title in the men's weight throw with a conference-record mark of 22.17 meters, securing a huge early point total for the Flyers.

In the vertical jumps, Neil Erasmus (George, South Africa/) added another championship performance, clearing 4.81 meters to win the men's pole vault. His victory added another critical first-place finish to the team tally.

The biggest statement of the night came on the track in the men's 5,000 meters, where the Flyers delivered a dominant 1-2-3-4 sweep. Evan Horgan (Loves Park, Ill./Belvidere North) led the charge, breaking the meet record en route to a gold medal in 14:23.08. Brendon Shea (Hershey, Pa./Hershey) followed in second (14:43.99), Gabriel Cates (Purcellville, Vir./Loudoun Valley) placed third (14:51.16), and Jack Roberts (Frankfort, Ill./Lincolnway East) secured fourth (14:51.56), while Owen Thomas (Valparaiso, IN/Morgan Township) added valuable points with a seventh-place finish (14:58.49). The distance crew's commanding performance created key separation in the team standings heading into the final day.

On the sprint side, the Flyers positioned themselves well for Saturday's finals. The men advanced multiple athletes through prelims in both the sprints and hurdles, setting up strong scoring opportunities across the board.
