Romeoville, Ill. - After tying the program record for digs in a match this past weekend, senior libero
Nico Paula (Tampa, Fla./Berkeley Preparatory School) was named the Midwest Intercollegiate Volleyball Association Defensive Player of the Week, the league announced this morning.
Paula becomes the first member of the Flyers this season to win multiple MIVA weekly awards. It marks the 10th weekly award of his career, the most of any active player on the Lewis roster this season.
In two matches last week, Paula tallied 26 total digs for an average of 3.71 digs per set. The Tampa, Florida, native had one of his best matches of the season as he tallied 22 digs, tying the program record he set during the 2025 campaign, against No. 12 McKendree. His 22 are also the most in a MIVA match this season. He opened the week with a four dig performance in Lewis' sweep against No. 11 Lindenwood. Paula was also without a reception error in 26 receptions over the two matches as well.
The Flyers will hit the road for the final time in the regular season, starting with a trip to No. 7 Ball State on April 9 at 7 p.m.
