Biography

Dr. Nancy V. Workman was appointed Faculty Athletic Representative for the Lewis Athletics Department, replacing Dr. Pat Vidmar-Scubic in the role, in the Fall of 2009. Workman began teaching at Lewis in 1991, having previously taught at several other colleges in the area, including DePaul University, Northern Illinois University and Loyola. Prior to her college level teaching, she had been a secondary school English teacher, at Queen of Peace High School in Burbank and the now closed Holy Family Academy. While at Lewis, Workman has held several administrative positions, including the Chair of the Department of English, Director of Women[apos]s Studies, and Director of Faculty Development. Workman received both her B.A. and M.A. from the University of Illinois at Chicago and her Ph. D. from Loyola University/Chicago. Her academic training is in the area of 19th-Century British Literature, but more recently she has taught and published articles on travel writing, women[apos]s poetry and fiction, as well on translation. Her current research interests concern Holocaust Poetry and Religious Art. Workman comes to her position having served as one of the original faculty representatives to the Athletics Advisory Task Force, which was initiated by Brother James Gaffney and the Provost Dr. Stephany Schlachter in the Fall of 2007. Workman is married and has one married daughter.
