Highland Heights, Ky. -
It took awhile for the Lewis University men's soccer team to get going in their contest against defending NCAA Division II champion and No. 10 Northern Kentucky on Sunday (Oct. 2) afternoon, but unfortunately for the Flyers, when they did, it was too little, too late.

NKU sophomore forward Mohammed Salhieh scored the lone goal of the contest in the 31st minute to help push the host Norse to the 1-0 Great Lakes Valley Conference victory over Lewis at the NKU Soccer Stadium.

"It was a tale of two halves," Lewis head men's soccer coach Evan Fiffles said. "They dominated and just had their way with us in the first half. In the second half, I thought we controlled the tempo because we were chasing the game because we had to get a score.

"We can play with anyone in this league when we're on our game," Fiffles continued. "But we have to be able to do it for 90 minutes."

With the win, Northern Kentucky improves to 9-1 overall and 7-1 in GLVC action, while the Flyers are now 4-6 on the season and 4-4 in conference play.

Northern Kentucky goalkeeper Ben Dorn made three saves in goal for the shutout victory, while his counterpart Alec Pickett (Mokena, Ill./Providence ) (Mokena, Ill./Providence) stopped three shots as well.

Lewis returns to action on Friday (Oct. 7) night, as the Flyers welcome Southern Indiana for a 7:30 p.m. first kick.
