HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky.
– Following an overtime loss at No. 16 Bellarmine on Friday, the Lewis women's soccer team hoped to turn it around on Sunday at No. 19 Northern Kentucky. However the Norse won the Great Lakes Valley Conference contest 3-0.

“I was hoping we could move the ball a little more and we weren't able to accomplish that,” head coach Chris Koenig said. “We didn't have enough urgency or passion today and NKU capitalized on that.”

Northern Kentucky held a 1-0 lead at the break thanks to a Kelsey Laumann goal at 19:05. Northern Kentucky's Amanda Mason scored twice in the second half. She scored unassisted at 50:43 and used a header off a corner kick at 86:11.

“The first goal changed the dynamics of the game,” Koenig said. “Against a dangerous team as NKU they throw everyone forward and after that first goal they smelled blood in the water.”

Freshman Daniella DiGioia (Roselle, Ill./Lake Park) (Roselle, Ill./Lake Park) had a team-high four shots.

Northern Kentucky held a 16-9 edge in shots, but only a 7-5 advantage in shots on goal. The Flyers earned seven corner kicks to Northern Kentcky's five.

The Norse's three goal differential breaks a stretch of seven consecutive contests for the Flyers with a one goal or fewer final score difference.

The Norse improve to 9-1-0 (7-1-0 GLVC). Lewis falls to 4-4-1 (4-3-1 GLVC). The Flyers are next in action on Friday when Southern Indiana comes to the Lewis Multi-purpose Athletic Complex. Start time is 5:00 p.m.
