Lake Forest, Ill. – Lewis University senior Derick Carlson (Norridge, Ill./St. Patrick) picked up two first-place finishes in the men's swimming team's 120-103 victory at Lake Forest College on Saturday (Nov. 16) at the LFC short course 25-meter pool.

The Flyers move to 4-1 in dual meets.

"The short course meters times make the result look a little odd but we swam well," Lewis head men's swimming coach Roger Karns said. "There were several line up changes and the men came through.

"We charged the finishes, but we still need some work on breakouts off of turns."

Carlson won the 800-meter freestyle (8:38.69), breaking the Lake Forest pool record of 8:46.88 by LFSC's Mitch Stoeher in 2008, and 400-meter freestyle (4:09.32) for the Flyers. He also teamed up with sophomore Trevor Henzel (Mokena, Ill./Lincoln Way North ), senior Julio Rodriguez (Chicago, Ill./St. Patrick) and freshman Aidan Brennan (Naples, Fla. /Barron Collier) to finish first in the 400-meter freestyle relay (3:40.90).

Brennan also won the 200-meter freestyle (1:54.49), resetting the Lake Forest pool record of 1:58.07 by LFSC's Greg Maurer in 1992. Brennan was the anchor leg in the first-place 200-meter medley relay(1:45.79), teamed up with junior Tyson Polack (Canby, Ore./Canby) and sophomores Zach Ballon (Englewood, Colo./Cherry Creek) and Alex Elston (Algonquin, Ill./Algonquin).

Ballon won the 100-meter breaststroke (1:06.81) and collected his own Lake Forest pool record resetting LFC's Alex Marks' 2010 time of 1:07.19 while Polack won the 200-meter Individual Medley (2:14.72).

Flyer freshman Victor Tarin (Godelleta, Valencia, Spain/IES Conselleria) picked up a win in the 100-meter butterfly (57.00).

The Flyers are back in action with they compete in the House of Champions, a mid-season championship-style meet, on Friday-Sunday (Nov. 22-24) in Indianapolis, Ind.
