Lewis University head men's soccer coach Evan Fiffles knew that his team would be in for a fight against Findlay.

Not only was it the Oilers' season-opener, the Flyers were coming off of a thrilling 3-2 double-overtime victory against No. 2 Saginaw Valley State on Thursday night.

Fiffles' premonition proved correct, as Lewis and Findlay battled to a 0-0 (2 OT) tie at Lewis Stadium on Saturday (Sept. 7) afternoon.

With the tie, Lewis is now 1-0-1 on the campaign, while the visiting Oilers are 0-0-1.

"We knew it was going to be a tough game," Fiffles said. "They didn't play on Thursday and we had some heavy legs today.

"(Findlay) is a good team," Fiffles continued. "We just couldn't execute when we had a couple of opportunities late.

"We just have to put one in the back of the net."

Lewis' best opportunity came in the 106th minute of the second overtime, as sophomore midfielder Luke Comerouski (Itasca, Ill./Christian Liberty Academy) connected with the inside far post that would have served as the golden goal.

As a team, the Flyers outshot Findlay, 19-9, including a 7-1 advantage in shots on goal. Findlay goalkeeper Joe McClanahan made seven saves, while Lewis' backstop Alec Pickett (Mokena, Ill./Providence ) stoned one shot to earn his eighth career shuout.

Lewis opens the Great Lakes Valley Conference season on Friday (Sept. 13), as the Flyers welcome Indianapolis to Lewis Stadium for a 7:30 PM kickoff.
