SLIDELL, La. – Lewis men's golf captured the two top spots in the four-team Loyola New Orleans Spring Invitational held at Oak Harbor Golf Club. Lewis' A squad was victorious with a score of 608 following a 301 on Tuesday (March 10) after Monday's 307. Lewis' B squad came in second with 333-323=656.
The A squad had four golfers in the top five. Senior
Jeremy Fraser (Frankfort, Ill./Lincoln-Way North) captured his first victory as a Flyer with a two-round season-best score of 74-75=149. Junior
Alex Thode (Washington, Iowa/Washington) tied for the second spot as he finished with 79-72=151. Freshman
Austin Buente (Troy, Ill./Triad) placed fourth, just one shot behind Thode thanks to a 74-78=152 score. Junior
Robert Dofflemyer III (Belvidere, Ill./Belvidere) ended in fifth with an 80-76=156. Senior
Ryan Frederick (Lockport, Ill./Lockport) rounded out the A squad with a 12
th place finish tallying 87-79=166.
Freshman
Eric Raube (Pontiac, Ill./Pontiac Township) was the top golfer on the B squad finishing sixth with 81-80=161. Freshmen
Trent Smith (Pontiac, Ill./Pontiac Township) and
Trace Moustakas (Palos Heights, Ill./Stagg) were right behind tying for seventh with 162. Smith shot an 85 on Monday and a 77 on Tuesday. Moustakes shot a pair of 81's. Finishing 15
th with 86-85=171 was freshman
Jack Korzon (). Rounding out the tournament for the Flyers was senior
Brandon Bolling (Chicago, Ill. /Guerin Prep) finishing 17
th with 86-88=174.
Third place University of Mobile shot 349-311=660. Host Loyola finished fourth to round out the tournament totaling 337-326=663.
The Flyers will be back in action on March 20
th in Florence, Kentucky at the Cardinal Invitational.
