CARMEL, Ind. – Lewis men's golf was one of four teams remaining on Tuesday (April 21) morning when match play competition opened at the 2015 Great Lakes Valley Conference Championship. Following a 3-2 win by the Flyers over Illinois Springfield in the morning, there were only two teams left standing. However Lewis' goal of a conference title came up a little short as Missouri-St. Louis bested Lewis 3-2 in the finals.

Lewis defeated the Prairie Stars in the opener thanks to a pair of wins in the final two matches. Junior Robert Dofflemyer III (Belvidere, Ill./Belvidere) closed out a two-stroke win over Talon Supak in the fourth match to tie the score at two. Junior Alex Thode (Washington, Iowa/Washington) used a birdie on hole 18 to swing the third point to the Flyers.

The 2015 Championship was just as tight as Lewis' semifinal contest in the morning. UMSL won the first two matches of the day, putting the Tritons up 2-0. However each of the final three contests remaining were close, giving Lewis a chance down the stretch. Freshman Austin Buente (Troy, Ill./Triad) tied with Markus Lindberg, making the score 2.5 to 0.5 in favor of Missouri-St. Louis. When Barry tied with Dofflemyer, it gave Missouri-St. Louis the final half point they needed. Thode finished his round to make the final score 3-2 in favor of the Tritons.
