ROMEOVILLE, Ill. – The No. 7 Lewis men's volleyball team hosts Quincy in the quarterfinals of the Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association (MIVA) Tournament this Saturday (April 13) at 7 p.m. at Neil Carey Arena. The Flyers enter the tournament as the No. 1 seed while the Hawks are seeded eighth.
Last Time Out – Lewis won its second outright and fifth MIVA regular season title with sweeps of Quincy and Lindenwood last weekend at Neil Carey Arena.
Mitch Perinar (Channahon, IL/Minooka) led the offensive attack averaging 3.00 kills per set while
Tyler Mitchem (Bolingbrook, Ill./Bolingbrook HS) and
Julian Moses (Atlanta, GA/Atlanta International School) added 2.50 kills per set apiece.
Matt Yoshimoto (Ventura, CA/Adolfo Camarillo) averaged 10.5 assists per set and
Michael Simmons (Aurora, IL/Waubonsie Valley) recorded 16 digs in the two matches.
About Quincy – The Hawks enter Saturday's match with a record of 5-22 overall and were 0-14 in MIVA play. They dropped both of their matches in straights against Lewis and Loyola this past weekend. Omari Wheeler leads the team and is second in MIVA with 3.92 kills per set. Adam Rogan is the primary setter for the squad and is distributing 8.53 assists per set. On the defensive side of the ball, Blake Sprecher leads the way up front with 75 total blocks while Noam Hannoun leads the way on the back line with 2.98 digs per set.
MIVA Tournament – The Flyers are making their 26th appearance in the MIVA Tournament and have won it four times in their history. They are looking for its first MIVA Tournament title since winning it in 2012 when they defeated Ohio State in five sets in Columbus. The winner of the MIVA Tournament receives an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.
Series Stuff: Saturday's match marks the 33rd meeting between Lewis and Quincy since 2005 with the Flyers holding a 31-1 advantage and have won 29 straight including both matches during the regular season.
