ROMEOVILLE, Ill. – The College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) announced on Thursday (May 16) that Lewis University men's volleyball player
Michael Simmons (Aurora, IL/Waubonsie Valley) has been selected to the Google Cloud Academic All-District Men's At-Large Team.
Simmons, a redshirt senior libero, is now eligible for Google Cloud Academic All-America accolades. It's his second career Academic All-District honor as he also was named to the team in 2017.
The 2019 AVCA Honorable Mention All-America and Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association First Team selection owned a 3.95 grade point average in business administration with a minor in marketing and his finishing his MBA in marketing and project management following the Fall '18 semester.
Simmons was third in MIVA in digs (212) and averaged 2.21 digs-per-set – good for third best in the league. He recorded double-digit digs in seven matches this season, highlighted by three 17-dig outings against Pepperdine (Jan. 19), at Ball State (March 23) and against USC (April 30). His 17 digs against the Trojans in the NCAA Opening Round match set an NCAA Tournament record for digs in a four-set match.
Lewis completed the 2019 season with a record of 26-6, won the MIVA regular season and postseason championships and advanced to the semifinal round of the NCAA Tournament.
